Janet Beasley Talks About Authors in the Park

Literary events can make a difference in so many ways. Author Janet Beasley, founder and owner of JLB Creatives, is living proof. How?

JLB Creatives is a division of their family company, Multi-Tech Productions, Inc. Multi-Tech is an audio-visual company that has served in the design and installation of sound and lighting systems, live event planning, and theatrical production coordination business since 1998.

When Janet was approached by author Mark Miller with the opportunity to help plan Authors in the Park she was elated. The thought did cross her mind that she may be a bit rusty since she’d decided to become a full time author and step away from event planning. . .but once event planning in your blood, Janet assures us it’s always in your blood.

Not knowing Janet’s past as a professional live event planner, and theatrical production coordinator, Mark was in for a treat. Coming from the industry of such years ago, Janet was up for the challenge when offered the chance to join forces and finally share her expertise and gusto in pulling off events within the literary arena guests would want to attend again and again.

When asked, Janet wasn’t shy in the least to fill us in on the birth of this elite authors event. “Authors in the Park started out on a modest note to say the least. I had been meeting regularly with Jean E. to discuss better ways to promote our books, meet new fans, and take the steps needed to become well known ‘experts’ in the literary world. Mark and I had crossed paths at a couple of local author showcases and hit it off as we’re both fantasy writers. Apparently Mark saw some kind of gumption in me I didn’t know I still had!” Janet laughed then continued. “He approached me with the idea of Authors in the Park, two weeks before the date he had scheduled for the inaugural event. My brain ran through all of my archived files regarding event planning, and I went on tilt. Normally I like to have at least 2 months to plan for this size event. Here I was faced with an amazing idea, but only 2 weeks to plan. Then again, if you know me, you know of course I went for it.”

Janet called a meeting of both Mark and Jean E. immediately to present the steps that needed to be taken in a very short time. She proceeded to tell them that they could do it as a team, the only thing that would be lacking would be the promotion but they would do what they could.

Authors in the Park inaugural event,  Christmas Spectacular 2012, came off without a hitch! Janet was feeling at ease watching it all come together in such a short time, and was happy to know she had not let her team down. When asked for her first thoughts after the event she responded, “I guess this ol’ gal really does still have enough umph and spirit to bring about such fun for not just our guests, but the participating authors as well. And I know one thing for certain I couldn’t have done it without my newest JLB Creatives Team Executives, Mark and Jean E.” Janet is honored to say that JLB Creatives has teamed up with MillerWords.com and the Authors in the Park Event Series 2013 schedule is shaping up nicely.

Their first event will be held March 30, 2013 in beautiful downtown Mount Dora, Florida. It is titled Spring Into Art – The Gallery Walk. And future events for fall and winter are already in the makes. 2. I echo what Gilli says - we need something like this in the UK. It's so hard to market and promote our books, especially for indie authors, and to come to together like this would be beneficial.
