Canada Inspired Raven

Author of Raven and December Moon, Suzy Turner talks about her visit to Canada and how this beautiful country created in her imagination such things as changelings that makes her Young Adult Fantasy novels different.

Raven was created after a visit to Canada in 2009. I was so taken by the spectacular surroundings that I was inspired to begin writing a fantasy book for young adults. That book would become the first in a trilogy known as The Raven Saga.

Travelling throughout western Canada, I was completely spellbound by the dramatic scenery at every turn. Massive mountains loomed off in the distance, lush green forests surrounded me and vast waterfalls fell within them. And the sound of ravens squawking from above all combined to create, in my mind, a perfect setting for vampires, werewolves, changelings and other supernatural beings. My imagination began to completely run riot... it was an exciting time to write a book, I can tell you!

My story begins with Lilly, a young girl living on the other side of the world, in London, in a loveless environment, with a father she never sees and a mother who treats her like dirt. When her parents mysteriously disappear, Lilly has no choice but to move to Canada, to a Grandfather she never even knew existed. Once there, she discovers a world she could never have imagined.

Raven is now available to download for FREE and its sequel, December Moon, is available for just $0.99.4

  1. I agree that Canada is inspiring. However, sometimes we miss the magic in our back yard as we see it too often. Travel can re-ignite our sense of wonderment.

Someday I must go to the UK and experience a London fog....
